Btw, I also have a paper due in the morning. Naipaul's The Mystic Masseur

I would of studied literature if I felt there was a future in it for me outside of academia. I’m a political science major right now I am in this History of Western Civilization which I have a 100% in because I am a Boss. Because of my early success in the class I have slacked off very much, forcing me to stay up this late to work on two research papers I’ve had the whole semester to complete. How is your paper coming along? I haven’t read the Mystic Masseur but I’ve watched some of the movie didn’t like it much. I’ve got some issues with Naipaul sorry haha.
There are certain themes in the story of Medea that are being portrayed such as the power and consequences of love, betrayal, and the grave act of vengeance. All of Medea’s actions in this book were based off of her deep love and passion for Jason that led to her betrayal of her homeland, her father and her brother which were all motivated by that intense love. To then find out that it wasn’t natural but rather motivated by the actions of the Gods in Jason’s favor and to have it scorned by the marriage of Jason to someone else discrediting and dis-legitimizing her hand in his success, can easily be seen as the biggest slap in the face. With vengeance in her eyes Medea in true Greek fashion killed and made her mark in ancient history. Greeks watching the play by Euripides probably attributed her nature to that of the barbarians as Medea is a foreigner, naturally seen with great contempt by the nativist xenophobic Greeks.

However I feel that a modern reader would in some ways be able to get from the work a somewhat proto-feminist feeling from this story. Medea is a woman who gets her revenge upon the men who wronged her, is instrumental to the success of a hero and saves him and not the other way around, and owes her power not to them but through her worship and faith in the goddess of witchcraft Hecate harkening back to the dominance of women in the time of the Mother Goddess. Some might consider her actions vile thus ignoring the cruelty of such highly acclaimed Greek heroes such as Heracles and Achilles, but I find her to be very empowering in a sense an antihero if you will.

Off to write about Gilgamesh!

Got a lot of things I want to do, but inshallah I’m coming...

Got a lot of things I want to do, but inshallah I’m coming back to you.

Dj.
